To me she did not feel like an authentic teenager. The one thing that bothered me about the novel was the writing of the main character, Clare. There is good character development and the reader is pulled along without too much being revealed. I liked the tension Clare feels as she is torn between her ex-boyfriend Justin and the new boy, Gabriel. But will her abilities be enough to find the killer? And can she have an open enough mind to follow where the leads take them, or will her feelings toward family and friends cloud her judgement?Ĭlarity is a fun YA novel I would recommend to teens who enjoy a little mystery and romance. Finally she can find deeper meaning in her psychic abilities. Finally, for once, she can use her gift for something other than local fun. But with the safety of the town’s residents and tourists as a top priority, Mayor Spellman asks Clare to use her gift to help solve the case. With little information and few connections, leads are few.

So everyone was surprised when one of them, an 18-year-old girl vacationing in Eastport, was found murdered in her motel room. Their small town had always been safe and was now happily filled with lots of summer tourists. And Clarity (“Clare”) is a psychic who, when she touches certain objects, can receive visions from the energy and memories left behind by the last person who touched them. Perry is a medium and can speak with the dead. Starla is a telepath and can hear your thoughts. In the town of Eastport, Maryland, there is a family of freaks by the name of Fern, or at least that is how the townspeople see them.
